Backgammon – Online for Money
Poker was a big boom for online gambling and now backgammon is starting to make its mark. There are many backgammon sites where you can play for fun or money. The site makes its money from charging a commission for holding the game. The commission may also be called rake, a term from poker.
Here is the how the basic commission works at most backgammon internet sites. The winner pays the commission for both players and it is taken from the total of the entries.
Up to $20 there would be a 4% charge. ($20 = $0.80 commission) $20 up to $100 there would be a 3% charge ($100 = $3 commission) Over $100 there would be a 2% commission fee.
Match Game
In a match game, the commission is taken from the stake sum and there is a 0.25% fee for each additional point in a game over 1 and as before the winner pays.
Under $20. Base commission (1 point) – 3%, every additional point 0.25%, with a maximum of 7%.
$20 up to $100
Base commission (1 point) – 2.5%, every additional point 0.25%, with a maximum of 6%.
$100 and over Base commission (1 point) – 2%, every additional point 0.25%, with a maximum of 5%.
As you can see, the online backgammon rooms are not terribly expensive but if you multiple the number of games going on by the commission you will see that it is quite a profitable business. So profitable that some of these rooms offer quite lucrative tournaments. The first $1 million guaranteed prize is currently being offered as well as many prize packages to international locations for tournaments. This business is growing and if you are backgammon pro then it could be quite profitable. Just ensure that you check the rate of commission and what that site has to offer before choosing one, as there are a lot to choose from online and more added each month.
