With the popularity of online games surging on the internet today, it is easy to understand why Backgammon online has become increasingly popular as well. Today, there are so many places you can play Backgammon online, you will never run out of hosts. Some popular places include, MSN Backgammon, Pogo, Yahoo Backgammon, Party Gammon, and so many more. What is more, some backgammon sites are even turning to email play, in which you do not really play in real time, but you play via email.

However, when you first start playing backgammon online, you may not know exactly what to expect. Playing backgammon online is similar, yet very different to offline play. The board can have a completely different, but general look to it. The great thing about the internet is that you can get very creative with your graphics and style of creation. When you start playing, you want to look for a reliable and well-established server or gaming site. There are some sites specifically for backgammon, while others carry many games. Some are free, some you have to pay memberships. Some carry prizes, others are just for fun, it is all the matter of choice.

There are several advantages and disadvantages to backgammon online. The Advantages include:

- Board Setup - The computer does it for you - Play - In most cases, the game will show you available plays - Opponents - You can play against a computer or players from all around the world - Simplicity - Because everything is generally automated, backgammon online is great for beginners, who are wanting to learn.

Disadvantages to backgammon online:

- Interaction - You can chat with your opponent, however, you do not have the same experience of sitting right in front of them. - Time limits - Most game boards will have a time limit for moves, if you do not make your moves within that period, you will forfeit your turn. - Interruption - Some servers are not reliable and may experience game interruptions

As you can see, there are good and bad about backgammon online, however, either way it is an experience and more fun than you could ever imagine.
