Online Backgammon Tournaments: Some Information For Players

There are plenty of online backgammon tournaments all over the Internet. Just like a live tournament, backgammon tournaments online give players of all skill levels the opportunity to play against entrants from all over the world. Those who play online in backgammon tournaments become members of a truly global community. This article presents some basic information about the varieties of tournaments for online backgammon.

Sit & Go: This is a great vehicle for beginners who are looking for online play in backgammon tournaments. Players who want to participate will sign up on a list and when the list is full, the tournament begins with this set number of players. Many have buy-ins that range from $5 to $200. Sit & gos are good introduction to tournament online backgammon play.

Knockout: These are considered “regular” ways to play in online backgammon tournaments. In a knockout tournament, you play as long as you’re winning. You lose, you’re out. You win, you advance to the next round in this type of online backgammon tournament play. Also known as single elimination tournaments. In this type of backgammon tournament online play, a game that ends in a draw that generates a second game that plays out until one player wins.

Swing: All players start out with the same amount of chips. Play continues until only one player remains who has accumulated all the chips available in this type of backgammon play in online tournaments.

Satellite: This is more or less regular tournament where instead of winning a money prize, players win buy-ins to bigger tournaments. Here’s an example: A player who wins a $10 tournament wins a buy-in to a much higher priced tournament.
